The Night Loyola Marymount Basketball Star Hank Gathers Died

March 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Loyola Marmount University basketball star Hank Gathers. Gathers was one of the most captivating college basketball players ever.
Gathers collapsed and died during the WCC Tournament in Los Angeles on March 4, 1990.
In December of 2005, Keith Forman, my LMU radio broadcast partner Keith Forman joined me on Sports Business Radio to take you back in time to that fateful night at Gersten Pavilion. We also played audio of our call for the first time in 15 years. And we even brought you audio from some of our interviews with Hank Gathers himself.

This weekend on Sports Business Radio I will bring you conversations with some of the key players from the 1989-90 LMU Basketball team. I caught up with Bo Kimble, Jeff Fryer, Tom Peabody, Terrell Lowery and others when I was in Los Angeles a few weeks ago for the 20-year reunion for the team.
I'll also be joined by Kyle Keiderling, author of the new book "Heart of a Lion: The Life, Death and Legacy of Hank Gathers".
And my former broadcast partner and Sports Business Radio co-founder Keith Forman will join me for this week's show - which is fitting since we shared so many memorable moments together during that 1989-90 basketball season.
On another note, tomorrow, on the 20th anniversary of the death of Hank Gathers, ESPN Classic is dedicating pretty much the entire day’s programming to LMU games. Here is the schedule and the link:
9AM - 1990 LMU vs. LA Salle (full game)
11AM - 1990 NCAA Tournament LMU vs. Michigan
2PM - 1990 NCAA Tournament LMU vs. Alabama
5PM - 1990 LMU vs. LA Salle (Classic Drive Thru)
6PM - 1990 LMU vs. Gonzaga
8PM - SportsCenter Flashback: Hank Gathers
Also tomorrow, you can catch Jeff Fryer on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" at noon PT.
ABC will be airing a documentary, "The Guru of Go" on April 3rd. For a preview of that documentary, click here.
Much more on the life and times of Hank Gathers on this blog and on Sports Business Radio this week.
